Issue 2 of Collect This! revisits 2004, when concrete skateboard decks were mounted in minimalist grids at the Venice Pits, Paul Revere banks, and Pier 7. Anonymous, unsanctioned, and unsold, the installations borrowed white-cube aesthetics—clean wall, orderly spacing—and left them exposed to sun, spray paint, and city crews.
The result is a live experiment in valuation: how quickly does cultural capital unravel when the museum’s frame is dragged back into the street? Through images, theory, and field notes, this issue dissects context as a form of currency—fragile, negotiable, and always under negotiation.
While Issue 1 explored value through scarcity, Issue 2 reframes it through context.
Collect This! is a six-part zine series on ephemeral art and how value is created, claimed, or lost.
